Love is something that many people find very hard to describe.
Dictionary.com has these descriptions for love:
- A profoundly tender, passionate affection for another person
- A feeling of warm personal attachment or deep affection, as for a parent, child, or friend
- Sexual passion or desire
But that is not quite how the attribute should be interpreted.
Fruit of the Spirit > Love > Unconditional Love.
That's right. Unconditional. Meaning unaffected by anything & is forever.
The "Love" is something that is self-giving love that gives freely without asking anything in return. It is also something that you choose to do rather than something that just happens by chance.
Here's a way to look at it: God loves us that way. He chooses to love us and, like us, has the Fruit of the Spirit (well obviously because the Fruit comes from him). His Unconditional love for us is why he died to save us.
1 Corinthians 13: 4-8
4 Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. 5 It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. 6 Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. 7 It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.
8 Love never fails. But where there are prophecies, they will cease; where there are tongues, they will be stilled; where there is knowledge, it will pass away.
